Jonathan Lockwood

Musical Director of the UK Brass Band Workshop 2023

Jonathan grew up in the Medway towns. He was born into a musical family with both his father, mother and brother playing trombone so Jonathan decided to learn the cornet instead.

He was brought up in The Salvation Army, where he got his first taste of brass band music and gained a lot of musical experience prior to joining the military at the age of 16.

During his training to be a military musician at the world famous Kneller Hall, Jonathan decided that the trombone was his instrument after all and so the family trait finally caught up with him.

He is currently serving with the Band of the Welsh Guards on Bass Trombone, and has played for many bands in London & Southern Counties area, including Medway, Aveley & Newham, Thundersley and is currently enjoying his time with Soham Comrades.

Even though Jonathan is a relative newcomer to the conducting world, he is rapidly making a name for himself and has already conducted several bands in the London & Southern Counties area, including Epping Forest (2nd Section), City of Cambridge (2nd Section), Soham (1st Section) and Harlow Brass Band.

He is looking forward to meeting you all at the workshop and concert.
